Farris Funeral Service April Learning Series Gives Participants Food For Thought

Farris Funeral Service & Crematory will host the first installment of its 2018 Learning Series, “Food For Thought,” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, at the Forest Hills Chapel, located at 19415 Lee Highway in Abingdon, Virginia.

Mike Farris, manager of Abingdon-based Farris Funeral Service & Crematory, and Claude Worrell, part-time assistant, will demonstrate how to prepare a variety of healthy, economical meals for participants who are single, widowed or live alone.

“Grieving after the loss of a husband, wife or partner is a challenging process,” Farris says. “Many people find themselves completely out of their comfort zone when faced with tackling unfamiliar daily tasks on their own, such as meal planning, shopping, food preparation, cooking, cleaning and other household responsibilities. This event is designed to teach participants how to make smart choices to stretch their food budget and benefit their overall health — while also helping boost confidence in their own abilities — all presented in a fun, uplifting atmosphere.”

Admission to the class is free-of-charge and open to the public. Pre-registration is required as the event space is limited to 15 participants. Participants will also share a meal together at the conclusion of the class.
