At Farris Funeral Service and Crematory, we believe you will find value in the things that make us different, so we encourage you to get to know us before you have a need for our services. Call or come by to meet our care team, tour our facilities, and ask questions. Our desire is to walk with you through all aspects of your grief journey.
When considering a local funeral service provider, ask these important questions:
Is the firm owned by a local family or individual, or is the firm part of a larger corporation?
Farris Funeral Service and Crematory was opened in 1952 and has always been owned by the Farris family. In fact, we are the only funeral home in Washington County that has continued to be owned and managed by the same family. We currently have members of three different generations of our family working together. Our family ties to this region are strong; our children attend local public schools, we are active in local churches, and we volunteer with many local non-profit organizations.
Does the firm have an on-site crematory?
Many firms will offer cremation services, but not all firms have their own crematory. When that is the case, those funeral homes must contract with a third-party crematory for the actual cremation. Farris Funeral Service and Crematory is the only funeral home in Washington County and Bristol, Virginia with our own on-site crematory, and we are the area’s exclusive provider of Cremation with Confidence™. Six members of our care team are certified crematory operators, and you can trust our professionals to treat your loved one with respect through each step of the cremation process.
Does the firm offer continuing care to survivors after the services?
The loss of a loved one changes our lives forever, and it can often be overwhelming to take care of both the practical and emotional issues that arise after the death. As part of our commitment to caring for survivors, the Farris family chose many years ago to provide assistance to families for many of these matters at no additional charge. We have a full-time administrative coordinator who can advise and assist you with filing for things such as insurance and veteran’s benefits. We are also the only firm in our region to offer a monthly bereavement support group, a holiday Remembrance Tree service, and a variety of grief education programs throughout the year.
Do the caregivers within the firm treat you with both professionalism and genuine compassion?
Our care team members are hand-chosen on the basis of both their professional credentials and their personalities. We value education and on-going training for our staff to keep our professional skills at the highest level possible. We also believe there are some traits that cannot be learned, so we place great emphasis on seeking team members who are genuine, compassionate caregivers. We hold each person in our firm to a standard of integrity and excellence that flows through the services we provide.
Does the firm have comfortable and convenient facilities?
The Main Street location of Farris Funeral Service and Crematory is a spacious, yet comfortable facility with ample, level parking surrounding the building. Our Forest Hills location is a smaller facility which houses our crematory and offers a large gathering room that can be used for several different purposes. We can host visitations, memorial services, funeral services and receptions in this one facility. In fact, we are the only firm in the region to offer a full-service reception center that can be used for meals before or after a service. Hospitality is an important aspect of our service to families, and we want each guest who enters one of our facilities to feel as though they are in a friend’s home.
