Natural Burial The idea of being “green” in a funeral service is actually an age-old concept, practiced by those who took care of the dead before the advent of separate funeral home facilities. Today, many people practice environmental consciousness in every aspect of their lives and prefer to leave the earth that way as well. A green funeral or natural burial can meet the needs of those committed to being eco-friendly.

A green funeral may include some or all of the following basic options: no embalming; using a biodegradable casket, clothing or shroud; using recycled paper products; choosing flower and food suppliers from local sources; having a ceremony in a natural setting; natural burial.

Natural Burial A natural burial ensures that your body will return to the elements as naturally as possible. The unembalmed body is buried in a natural setting without the use of a vault; any marking of the grave is done with natural materials instead of standing, traditional headstone. The body is wrapped in a shroud or placed in clothing in a casket made from natural materials that are biodegradable, nontoxic, and sustainable.
