Name: Donald “Don” Walker Gowan Date: May 9th, 2010 Obituary: Donald (Don) Walker Gowan, age 56, passed away May 9, 2010 at Erwin Health Care after an extended illness. He was a former employee of The Nature Conservancy. He was an avid outdoorsman and hiker. Don was born in Sweetwater, Tennessee to Maxine Gowan Kirkland and the late John Gowan. Survivors include his wife, Cat Gowan; mother, Maxine Gowan Kirkland; sister, Jan Tallent and husband Steve; brother, John Gowan; nieces, Jill McDonald and Julie Lewis and nephew, Joe Tallent. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Sadie and cats, Modena and Boop. Don’s wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at St John Lutheran Church, 807 E. Main St., Abingdon, VA on May 22, 2010 at 2:00 pm. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the wonderful staff at Erwin Health Care for the love and care they gave to Don. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to The Nature Conservancy, Clinch Valley Program, 146 E. Main Street, Abingdon, VA 24210.
