Waltenis “Walt” Percy Rowe, 79, died Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at the Valley Healthcare Center in Chilhowie.
Mr. Rowe was a native of Buchanan County, VA and moved to Bristol in 1986. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and served during the Korean Conflict. He attended the Shakesville Church of Christ and was a minister his entire life. Mr. Rowe worked in the construction industry and enjoyed gardening and yard work.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Coy and Myrtle Rowe, his wife, Ava Clevinger Rowe, and a brother, James Rowe.
He is survived by one son, Paul D. Rowe and wife Sharon of Bristol, VA; one daughter, Pamela Denise Clevinger and friend Billy Maiden of Bristol, VA; one brother, Henry Rowe and wife Sue of Bristol, VA; two sisters, Bonnie Honeycutt of Cincinnati, OH, and Thelma Miller and husband Everett of Camp Douglas, WI; and four grandchildren: Kari Rowe, Jonathan Rowe, Danica Rowe, and Jared Clevinger.
Funeral services for Mr. Walt Rowe will be Friday, July 30, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Service, Main Street Chapel, 427 East Main Street, Abingdon with John Owens, Minister and Roger Phelps, Minister, officiating. The family will receive friends Friday before the service from 6:00 to 7:45 pm. Interment services will be held Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Forest Hills Memory Gardens at 11:00 a.m., with military rites conducted by Highlands Fellowship Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Billy Yates, Kyler Yates, David Payne, Herb Altizer, and John Holloway. Those wishing to go to the cemetery in the procession should meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a m.
