A.J. Miller, Jr., 90, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at NHC Healthcare in Bristol due to injuries suffered in an automobile accident on August 4, 2011

He was a member of Abingdon Baptist Church, a member of the Harry Denton Sunday School Class, and served his country in the United States Army during WW II. He was a well known home builder in the area for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jimmie Lee Miller; daughter, Phyllis Hope Miller; his parents, Arthur and Edna Miller; and sister, Madeline Spahr

He is survived by his brother-in-law, Joy Hayter and wife, Ernestine; a good friend, Nora Millsap; several nieces and nephews; a God-grandson, Richard Hinchman, III; a God-daughter, Laura Nash; two special great nieces, Bobbie Hayter Harden and Karen Moss and many friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 18, 2011 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Dr. Steven Pollard officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. until the time of the service Tuesday.

Committal services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Mt. View Baptist Church Cemetery. Those wishing to go in procession to the cemetery are asked to assemble at Farris Funeral Service by 10:30 A.M. Wednesday. Pallbearers will be David Coleman, Don May, Dwayne Cooke, Curtis Fleenor, Mark Barrett, Earnest Worley, Bobby Copenhaver, John Blankenship, Sam Neese, Wayne Goodman and Matt Odum. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Jack Cole, Harry Denton Sunday School Class, Doyle Bootheroy, Dr. Scott Shaffer, Dr. Allen Grantham, Gary Dutton, Ricky Correll, Franklin Walker, Craig Kendrick, Ernest Copenhaver, Charles Combs, Charles Prater, Harry Prater, John Inscore, Roger White, Danny Reynolds, John Reynolds, Jr., Clarence Tedder, Peewee Prater and Fred Bellamy. Military rites will be conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard.
