Alice MaeBelle Grace Smith, age 79, passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at St Francis Hospital in Chesterfield VA. Mrs. Smith was a mother to three sons and a member of Old Glade Presbyterian Church. She was known in the community as a longtime business leader, owner of the Credit Bureau of Washington County and the Jiff-E-Jack market. She also served as Secretary of the Retail Merchants' Association of Abingdon and was active in organizing the annual Abingdon Christmas parade. Mrs. Smith also retired from the Washington County Sheriff's Office. She was born to the late John Lafayette and Pauline Thomas Grace, both of Washington County, and is also preceded in death by her brother, Johnnie Elwood (Woody) Grace, and sister, Vivian Belcher.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Russ & Susan (Tysons Corner, VA), Tim & Lorrie (Chesterfield, VA), Kevin & Andi (Oklahoma City, OK), grandson Derrick (Amelia, VA), sister-in-law Kathy Grace, brother-in-law Eugene Belcher, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, October 5, 2012 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Reverend Tim Bird of Old Glade Presbyterian church officiating. A committal service will be held at Knollkreg Memorial Park immediately following the funeral. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday October 4th at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Derrick Smith, Tony Byrd, Dustin Grace, John Berry, and Tony Roark.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Opal Dixon, her loving caregiver and dear friend, and the staff of Lucy Corr Village.
