Anne Austin, 64, of Ojai, Calif., and a former resident of Abingdon, Va., died on May 22, 2018. Born in Baltimore, Md., on September 20, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Charles N. Austin and Ruth V. Austin of Abingdon.
Anne was a graduate of Abingdon High School, East Tennessee State University (B.S. Biology), North Carolina State University (M.S. Biology), and the University of Houston (Doctor of Optometry).
She is survived by her husband Michael McFall of Ojai. She is also survived by a son, David Thompson of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; her former husband Mark Thompson (Cindi) of Chapel Hill, Tenn.; her step-mother Mona Owens-Austin of Johnson City, Tenn.; a daughter Jena Collins (Mark) of Johnson City; and her sister Jeanne Austin Preston of Abingdon.
In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Donald Preston; a brother John Malone Austin and a sister Ruth Lynne Austin, both of whom died in infancy.
A gathering celebrating Anne’s life was held in Ojai on May 31, 2018. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2018, with a reception to follow, at Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church, 136 East Main Street, Abingdon.
