Arthur Frederick LaVoie

Roanoke, VA- Arthur Frederick LaVoie, age 84, of Roanoke passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2014. He was the youngest son of Harry LaVoie and Elizabeth Anastasia Wheaton LaVoie and was born on January 6, 1930 in Malone, NY. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo LaVoie and Gerald LaVoie, a sister, Pauline Raymond, and his many beloved dogs and cats. He is survived by his daughter, Diane Carmack and husband Bill of Abingdon, VA; son, Glenn LaVoie of Buchanan, VA; sister, Eleanor Peck of Elnora, NY; two granddaughters, Anne Nichols and husband David of Christiansburg, VA and Emily Britt and husband Brian of Lynchburg, VA; and friend, Jean Johnson. After serving in the Army, Art joined General Electric and moved his family to Roanoke from New York. He was an active Boy Scout leader for many years and bowled with the GEEA league. He retired after 42 years and enjoyed his long retirement by bowling, taking trips to the beach, entertaining his granddaughters, walking his dogs, and visiting with neighbors. A private family memorial will be held in Abingdon, VA at a later date. To honor Art’s life, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Angels of Assisi, the Disabled American Veterans, or the Salvation Army.
