Benjamin Wright

December 16, 1917 — March 12, 2011

Benjamin "Frank" Wright, 93, was born December 6, 1917 and went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 12, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was a well known carpenter/contractor and served as a marine in World War II. Mr. Wright was a faithful member of Greenwood Freewill Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for 60 years and had perfect attendance for over 24 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlene and Greene Wright; his loving wife of 70 years, Mae Wright; brothers, Lum Wright, Harrison Wright and Charles Wright and grandchildren, Rita Neal and Zachary Allen.

Mr. Wright is survived by sons, Earl "Bud" Wright and wife Mary Ann; Marshall Wright and wife, Phyllis; daughters, Wilma Neal and husband, Dewey, Ruby Baumgardner and husband, Roy, Hazel Baumgardner and Ethel Riley and husband, Pete. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their thanks to 2 granddaughters, Regina and Courtney "for their wonderful help during mom and dad's illness" as well as Home Nursing of Southwest Virginia and Hometown Hospice.

Funeral services for Mr. Wright will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Greenwood Freewill Baptist Church with Preacher Joe Powers and Pastor David Neitch officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Baptist Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Gene Sweet, Harley Wilson and David Baumgardner.

Military honors will be conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard

The family will receive friends at Farris Funeral Service from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday or anytime at the home. (19338 Saturn Drive, Abingdon, VA)
