Bertha Henry Prater of Cary, North Carolina, passed away March 2, 2016. She was a native of Abingdon, Virginia. Born December 14, 1928, she was the daughter of Worley Bradley Henry and Hattie South Henry.
She retired in 1991 from the Raytheon Company after 33 years of service at the Missile Systems Plant in Bristol, Tennessee. Mrs. Prater was baptized and a member of the Abingdon Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Prater McArtan. Survivors include one son, James Leon Prater and wife Deborah C. Prater of Cary, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Richard Brian Prater of Kennesaw, Georgia, and Loren Prater Ruark and husband Jason Ruark of Holly Springs, North Carolina; and two very special great- grandchildren, Logan James Ruark and Elise Casey Ruark of Holly Springs, North Carolina.
A memorial service for Bertha Henry Prater will be held at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Parke Deans officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home chapel one hour prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Abingdon Baptist Church, 361 West Main Street, Abingdon, Virginia 24210 or to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC, 27607.
The members of the Prater family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff at Universal Health Care in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina for their special care and dedicated service rendered to Bertha Prater. A special thank you goes to Dr. Sujatha Raman and her nurse Suzanne for the tremendous amount of love, compassion and respect that was shown each time they treated Ms. Prater. The family would also like to extend their deepest appreciation to Transitions LifeCare Hospice of Wake County for their kindness and thoughtfulness during Ms. Praters final days.
