Betty Sue Gregory Medicus, age 76, passed away at the Wellmont Hospice House on May 13, 2013. Betty was an active member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church, the Abingdon Garden Club, the Booklovers Club, the Hospital Auxiliary, the Meadowview Civic Club, and the Women's Club of Asheville for many years. She was an avid reader, did beautiful needlepoint, and loved antiquing.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ewell and Mary Parris Gregory; four infant siblings; three nephews; two brothers-in-law; and sister, Ernestine G. Davis.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Emil Ragland Medicus; loving and caring daughter, Mary Anne Medicus of Lafayette, CO; sister, Mildred (Millie) Gregory Anderson of North Hampton, NH; brother, Kenneth Ewell Gregory and wife Mary Lynn; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A candlelight funeral service will be held at 8:00 P.M., Friday, May 17, 2013 at Abingdon United Methodist Church with Rev. Sherry Boles and Rev. Clarence Dishman officiating. Musical selections will be provided by Glen Patterson, soloist and director of the Abingdon United Methodist Choir. At her request, there will be no visitation or reception prior to the service.
A private committal service will be held at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Abingdon United Methodist Church Capital Campaign, 101 East Main Street, Abingdon, VA 24210, in Mrs. Medicus' name.
