Betty Zane Davidson

September 12, 1928 — November 18, 2018

Bristol, TN – Betty Zane Davidson, 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 18, 2018 surrounded by her family. Betty was born in Saltville, Va. to the late Albert and Madge Henegar, and married the late John Gipson Lamie. Widowed when she was only 30 years old, Betty overcame loss to raise her three young children. She was soon blessed to meet and marry Berkley M. Davidson, her husband of 54 years who passed away in 2014. The family grew to include another son and daughter and moved to Bristol, Tenn. in 1960, where they were members of Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church. Betty’s strong faith, no-nonsense attitude, and steady perseverance made her a role model for her five children, and later for her grandchildren. She loved her Sunday School class and spending time with her close friends. She enjoyed books, daily walks, and travel, especially to the family’s second home at the beach in Garden City, South Carolina, and she passed her love of all of these things on to her grandchildren. Betty is survived by her five children, Sharon (Harvey) Jones of Bristol, Tenn., John (Cindy) Lamie of Abingdon, Va., David (Karen) Lamie of Newport Beach, Calif., Jimmy (Cheri) Davidson of Leesburg, Va., and Jennifer Kinch of Roswell, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Tracey (Mike) Dixon, Blair (Audra) Jones, Courtney Lamie, Kirsten Lamie, Griffin Lamie, Elizabeth Lamie, Drew Davidson, and Sydney Davidson; and four great-grandchildren, Adilyn Jones, Emma Ruth Jones, Austin Dixon, and Braeden Dixon. Betty was preceded in death by her son-in-law Greg Kinch. She was the last surviving member of her family, following the passing of her brothers Glen and David and her sister Hilda.  She is also survived by her nephews, Ron Coulthard, Bill Coulthard, Dan Coulthard, her niece, Joan Minnick, and her sister-in-law Mattie Gray Henegar. The family would like to extend special thanks to caretakers, who became extended family, Linda Boling, Wanda Hayden, Jackie Neal, and Barbara Webster, as well as the staff of NHC and Caris in Bristol. She also enjoyed stays at English Meadows in Abingdon, Va. and Oakmont at Gordon Park in Bristol, Va. and benefited from the excellent care she received there. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2018 in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA with the Reverend Walter Weikel officiating. Visitation with the family will be held at 12 p.m. prior to the service. Entombment will follow in the Colonial Chapel Mausoleum of Forest Hills Memory Gardens.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church, 1127 Virginia Avenue, Bristol, TN 37620, in Mrs. Davidson's name. Those wishing to express sympathy online may do so by visiting www.farrisfuneralservice.com and signing the online guest register.
