Bret Matthew Watson, age 59, died on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at his home in Meadowview, Va. from adrenal cortical carcinoma, an extremely rare cancer. Bret was born in San Diego, Ca. on April 29, 1959, but lived his adult life in Washington County, Va. and considered these mountains his home. Bret attended high school in Austin, TX, where he studied to be a land surveyor and met his wife Melissa Abell Watson. They married, had twin daughters, and moved back to his wife’s native home of Virginia, where he began working for Holbrook Surveyors and eventually Addison’s Surveyors.
Bret is survived by his wife Melissa Ann Abell Watson of Meadowview; his father and mother, Walter Earnest Watson and Carol Marie Williams Watson of Quitman, Ga.; his daughters Emily St. John Watson of Meadowview and Blair Abell Watson of Denver, Col.; and sister Kathy Watson Tager of Austin, Texas.
Bret was a big man in life, love, and spirit and will be missed by many friends and a large extended family. A memorial service will be held in the near future, and will be announced when scheduled.
