Bruce Edward Denton

Bruce Edward Denton passed away December 16th at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC.
Bruce was born in Fort Lauderdale, FL to Morris James Denton and Marcelle Wooddell but
grew up in Abingdon, VA and Bristol, TN and had recently moved back to the area from Candler, NC.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 36 years, Teresa, two daughters, Laura Denton Bruce (Patten) of Charleston, SC and Amy Denton Navey (Josh) of Durham, NC and three grandchildren, Levi, Reese and Cal Navey, as well as his mother, Marcelle Denton. He was preceded in death by his father, Morris James Denton.
Bruce graduated from Virginia High School in 1976. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Radford University but worked primarily as a computer programmer and IT specialist for various organizations.
Bruce was an avid photographer from the time his dad gave him a little Brownie camera in his early childhood. He enjoyed roaming around the hills and mountains of the area capturing the beauty of this world. He thought of himself as a “Blue Ridge Pilgrim” and chronicled some of his adventures in words and photographs. One of his favorite things was spending time out on South Holston Lake.
Bruce was a committed believer in Jesus Christ and served in various capacities in several churches over the years. He was a member of Highlands Fellowship in Abingdon, Va.
He loved his family and friends dearly and will be deeply missed by everyone.
A memorial service will be held at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 427 East Main Street in Abingdon, Va. on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Gary Combs officiating. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, New York 10004.
