Carolyn Barrows May, 84, passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 in Bristol, TN.

She was born August 3, 1926 in Huntington, WV and was the daughter of the late Fred Austin and Josephine Walker Barrows. She had lived in Charlotte, NC before moving to Abingdon in 1996, where she made her home with her daughter, Susan Copeland, and grandchildren, Clay and Kelsey Rae Copeland. She was an active volunteer at Johnston Memorial Hospital with more than 6,000 hours of service. She was a member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul William May.

Survivors are daughters, Susan Copeland of Abingdon, Virginia; Jo Alice Lorenz (Bruce) of Jeannette, PA; Shirley Ellis (Will) of Chelsea, MI; son, Richard May of Pittsburgh, PA; sister, Sally Barrows Muse (Michael) of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Jeremy Conte of Phoenix, AZ, Clay and Kelsey Rae Copeland of Abingdon; Joshua Lorenz of Murrysville, PA, Amanda Lorenz of San Diego, CA, Tiffany Lorenz of Latrobe, PA; Adam Ellis, William Ellis, Kristin Ellis Glines, Robert Ellis of Chelsea, MI; Angela May of Texas; seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. May will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Farris Funeral Service, Main Street Chapel with Rev. Ellie Scofield officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at noon on Saturday.

A committal service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 15, 2010 at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Barboursville, WV. Pallbearers will be Clay Copeland, Jeremy Conte, Josh Lorenz, Adam Ellis, William Ellis and Bruce Lorenz.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Lion's Club in the form of used eyeglasses.
