Carolyn Moore Young left this life to walk the streets of gold on Saturday, January 15, 2011. Her family grieves her passing, but they are comforted by having been blessed by her accomplishments, her love of life, her beautiful smile, her compassion for others, her determination, hope and courage to fight the cancer that took her life.
Carolyn spent all of her working years serving others in the medical field with employment at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Johnston Memorial Clinic, Highlands Internal Medicine and currently employed by Abingdon Healthcare for Women. Carolyn was a lifelong member of Abingdon Baptist Church.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her two loving babies; her parents, Chester and Adeline Moore and her brother, Chet Moore.
She is survived by her son, Roy P. "J.R." Young of Portland, OR; sister, Jane M. Waters of Abingdon; nephews, Mark and Carol Moore, Patrick and Mary Beth Moore, Trey and April Waters, Jason and Rachel Waters and grand nieces, Lena Moore, D'Juna Moore and Charlotte Ann Waters.
Carolyn is also survived by her many co-workers and loved by all who knew her. Her passing will leave a huge void in the hearts of all whom she touched.
A memorial service for Carolyn Young will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Abingdon Baptist Church with Dr. Steven Pollard officiating. The family will receive friends at Abingdon Baptist Church from 6:00 until 7:45 P.M. Tuesday.
Committal services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Franklin Memorial Park in Rocky Mount, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Suite 800. Washington, DC 20004.
