Abingdon, VA Charles Edward Lucas went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 15, 2016 at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. He was born November 16, 1940 to the late Estee and Lillian Evans Lucas in Elm City, NC. Mr. Lucas was a machinist for Ball Corporation for 25 years and attended Charles Wesley United Methodist Church.

Charles will be remembered for his kind soul and loving and generous heart. He was always giving to others through his service to the community and was an avid Virginia Tech Hokies fan.

He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his wife of 49 years, Gertrude Ellison Lucas; five children, Sean Lucas and wife Sonia, Warren Lucas and wife Shelley, Marty Lucas and wife Anna, Cynthia Roscoe and husband Sherwin, and James Arrington and wife Candace; sisters, Lela Durant, Beulah Terry, Evelyn Barnes, Marjory McCoy, and Gwendolyn Mix; 13 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many loving and devoted nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be held 2-3 p.m. Saturday, January 23, 2016, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Robert Kariuki officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Mitchell McCoy, John Jordan, Kevin Terry, Earl Fuqua, Marcellus Tomlinson, and Dwayne Anderson serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Scott Anderson, Alexander Anderson, LuSada Anderson, and Roger Spencer.
