Charles Edward Sansing

November 7, 1946 — July 4, 2014

Abingdon, VA – Charles Edward Sansing, age 67, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2014 while vacationing. He had been a resident of Abingdon for the past 9 years; having moved from Glastonbury, CT. Mr. Sansing retired from Aetna Insurance Corporation after 26 years. He served his country, and was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Sansing was known for his community and church service. He was the President of the Congregation Council for several churches; most recently of which was St. John Lutheran Church in Abingdon. In Connecticut, he was a youth league sports coach and president of the YMCA. He was a very detailed man and volunteered his services at local high schools as a statistician. Mr. Sansing was very active in the Ecumenical Faith In Action Organization in Abingdon. He will be remembered as a loving, generous, patient and kind man; always wanting to help others without drawing attention to himself. Mr. Sansing was predeceased by his parents, Wesley Judson, Sr. and Edith Judson; and sisters, Sandy Dockett and Connie Findley. He is survived by his wife, Louise, of their home; son, Chad Sansing and wife Bethany Nowviskie of Waynesboro, VA; grandchildren, Victor Sansing and Eleanor Nowviskie; sisters Frances Featherchuk and Sharon Bowen; step brothers, Tom and Mike Judson; half brothers, Jan and Wesley Judson, Jr.; step sisters, Sandee Judson-Christie, Juanita Caswell, and numerous nieces, nephews and 2 cousins. A funeral service for Mr. Charles Edward Sansing will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Abingdon, VA with Pastor G. Scott Homesley officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception in the fellowship hall of the church following the service. Interment services will be held at 3:00 pm at Knollkreg Memorial Park; Abingdon, VA, where military honors will be presented by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard. The family has asked that donations in memory of Mr. Sansing be made to Faith In Action Food Pantry; Post Office Box 2419; Abingdon, VA 24212.
