Charles Spurgeon Gentry Jr.

February 1, 1923 — July 19, 2009

Charles Spurgeon "Charlie" Gentry, Jr., 86, joined the Lord on Sunday, July 19, 2009 at his residence. He was born February 1, 1923 in Washington County to the late Charles Spurgeon Sr. and Mattie Suits Gentry. He was the eldest of 12 children. "Papaw Charlie" as he was fondly called by his grandchildren enjoyed a full life leaving his family many warm memories.

A long time resident of Glade Spring, he was a member of the Glade Community First Church of God and a former employee of Olin Matheson. He was respected and loved by his son and grandchildren. He will be missed and not soon forgotten.

Mr. Gentry was preceded in death by his beloved son Charles "Gene" Eugene Gentry; his brothers, Lyhue, Jack, Clyde, Glen, Bill, James, and Bob; and his sisters, Imogene Henderson, Annavene Lester, Kate Hancock, and Ruby Keesee.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Ruby; daughter-in-law, Sandra; grandsons, Charles "Chad" Gentry and wife Shannon, and Chuck Gentry and wife Sandi, the apples of his eyes; his great-grandchildren, Kali, Kennedy, KJ, and Chance Gentry; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Gene Little officiating. The family will receive friends immediately prior to the service beginning at 6:00 p.m.

The committal service will be Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in Mount Rose Cemetery, with nephews serving as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the cemetery.
