Chief Wilbur "Bill" Margerum, 91, passed away Thursday; April 4, 2013.

He was retired from the United States Navy, having served in World War II and Korea. He also retired from Civil Service. After moving to Abingdon, he worked at Va. Highlands Community College and drove a school bus for Washington County Schools. He loved working in his yard amongst the hundreds of trees and flowers that he planted.

In June, he would have celebrated 70 years of marriage to his devoted, surviving wife Marge. He is also survived by his daughters Bobbi (Bob) Lowe of Christiansburg, VA and Kathi (Leighton) Lowe of Abingdon; grandchildren Fred Lowe, Carol Beth Payne, Peggi Lowe, Christy Hicks, Ginny Bussey and Matt Lowe; 7 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren and his sister Betty Kirchner of Philadelphia, PA.

Special thanks to neighbors Jack and Nancy Abel and nephew Bill (Betty) Kirchner for keeping watch over him and to granddaughter Carol Beth, and his special friend Michael for special care. Also special thanks to Gina and Sandra.

A service to celebrate Bill's life will be held at a later date.
