Clara Grace Widener

Mrs. Clara Grace Widener, age 95, passed away Monday September 16, 2013, at Grace Healthcare in Abingdon, VA. She was a life-long resident of Washington County. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker who loved gardening and playing piano.

Mrs. Widener was preceded in death by her husband Earnest E. "Bummy" Widener on August 27, 2013; daughter Kay Roark, and grandson David Cook.

Mrs. Widener is survived by a son, Jerry E. Widener (Carolyn) of Abingdon; and two daughters, Phyllis Wagoner (Leonard) of Copper Hill, VA, and Annette Widener of Roanoke, VA; ten grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service to celebrate Mrs. Clara Grace Widener's life will be held at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2013, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Danny Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm 8:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service on Thursday. A committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 20, 2013, in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery 15 minutes prior to the service.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Mrs. Widener's friends and caregivers Eula Mae Dalton, Myrtle and Clayton Thompson, and Shirley Sweet for the love and care that they showed during her illness.
