Claude A. Graybeal, age 70 and life long resident of Abingdon, passed on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at his home. Mr. Graybeal was a 1960 Graduate of Abingdon High School and attended Greendale Chapel. Claude served his community as a Life Member of 45 years on the Washington County Life Saving Crew. He was also a life member of the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads. Mr. Graybeal retired from Sperry-Univac after 23 years and also was a truck driver for Abingdon Steel for 18 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Palmer J. and Icie Graybeal, and brother, Rev. Lawrence R. Graybeal.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia S. Graybeal; son, James A. Graybeal of Abingdon, VA; daughter, Lisa Bolling and husband Frank of Kingsport, TN; grandson, Jacob Bolling; Hannah Fogleman, whom he loved as a granddaughter; sisters, Mary Leonard and husband Jerry of Bristol, VA, Marcella Caudill and husband John of Abingdon, VA, and Avil Mitchell and husband Roy of Abingdon, VA; sisters-in-law, Gloria Stroup and husband Jim of Abingdon, VA and Gay Repass and husband Walter of Roanoke, VA; brother-in-law, Herman Snead of Abingdon, VA; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Greendale Chapel with Rev. Jerry Eggers officiating. Interment will follow at Knollkreg Memorial Park with grandson Jacob Bolling and the Washington County Life Saving Crew serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Greendale Chapel.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Main Street Location of Farris Funeral Service.
