Claude Henson Vencill

Claude Henson Vencill, age 87, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Grace Healthcare. He was a survivor and a fighter and will always be remembered as an amazing story teller. He was always smiling and was loved by all who knew him.
He was born to the late Weaver Vencill and Alice Surber Vencill in Tazewell County, VA on December 7, 1926. He was a decorated veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II and the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Thomas Edward Dye, Sr.; brother, Coy Vencill; five step-brothers, Robert Vadden Dye, Clarence Harrison Dye, Alvie E. Dye, V.T. Dye, and Fred Dye; and sister, Eva M. Thomas.
He is survived by his brother, James Zachariah Vencill; step-brother, Thomas Edward Dye, Jr. of Glen Burnie, MD; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2013 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Ronnie Matney officiating. A committal service will follow at Knollkreg Memorial Park where Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard will present Military Honors. Honorary pallbearers will be the residents of Washington Court Apartments.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to staff of the Hemo/Oncology Department at the Mountain Home VA Medical Center, and the nurses and staff of Grace Healthcare.
