David Bonham Veselik , 50, passed away at the Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center on Thursday, October 14, 2010, after a brief illness.
He was a 1978 graduate of Marion Senior High School; a 1980 graduate of Wytheville Community College with an associate's degree in Business Administration; and a 1982 graduate of John Tyler Community College with an associate's degree in Funeral Science.
Veselik was a licensed funeral director, having worked in the funeral industry in Southwest Virginia for 32 years. He was a long-time employee of Farris Funeral Service and he also previously worked for Seaver-Brown Funeral Home and Barnett's Funeral Home in Marion, Akard Funeral Home in Bristol, and others. He was a member of the Virginia Funeral Directors Association and the Southwest Virginia Funeral Directors Association.
He is survived by his father, Robert G. Veselik, of the home; a sister and brother-in-law, Susan V. and H. Lee Catron of Chilhowie; a brother and sister-in-law, William A. and Cheryl A. Veselik of Marion; two nieces, Amanda C. Orlowski of Johnson City, TN, and Emma E. Veselik of Marion; three nephews, Samuel R. Catron of Blacksburg, Andrew B. Catron of Kingsport, and Ethan M. Veselik of Marion; and one aunt, Elizabeth M. Simpkins of Richmond.
Veselik was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn M. Veselik, and a brother, James R. Veselik.
He was an inveterate fan of NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon.
A memorial service will be held at Farris Funeral Service-Main Street Chapel on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. with Dr. Angus Shaw and Rev. John Stapleton officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Park in Marion, VA at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at Farris Funeral Service from 1:00 pm to 2:30 on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, tax-deductible contributions may be made to the Wytheville Community College Educational Foundation, 1000 East Main Street, Wytheville VA 24382 and earmarked for the Robert G. and Evelyn M. Veselik Scholarship Endowment.
