David William Barger, 76, of Meadowview died on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at his home.
Born in Sullivan County, TN, he was born to the late Charlie and Anna Ruth Barger. David was retired from Eastman Construction and attended Mount Carmel Christian Church of Meadowview, VA and Emmanuel Baptist Church of Abingdon, VA. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his first wife Marie Barger; a sister, Mary Sue Barger; and a brother, Hal Barger.
Surviving him are his wife Bly W. Gobble-Barger; two sons, David Wayne Barger and his wife Joyce, and David Gobble and his wife Karen; a sister, Betty Feathers; eight grandchildren, Timothy Jeremiah and Kevin Scott Barger, Kathy Jones, Cindy Coleman, Angie Doss, David Rose, Timothy Gobble, and Theron Gobble; and nine great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews. David will be dearly missed by all of his loving family and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 7:30 P.M. at Farris Funeral Service, Main Street Chapel with Pastor Tom Williams and Pastor Mike McCoy officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. A committal service will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in Forest Hills Memory Gardens, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, Virginia 24210 with military honors being rendered by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and Virginia National Guard Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Doss, Tim Jones, Ronnie Wilcox, Eddie Bailey, Ben Repass, and Bill Mink.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of David William Barger to the Mount Carmel Christian Church, 13108 Lindell Rd, Meadowview, VA 24361 or to the Glade Spring Volunteer Life Saving Crew, 412 West Glade Street, Glade Spring, Virginia. 24340
