Delilah Ellen Smith Hutchinson

Mrs. Delilah Ellen Smith Hutchinson, age 87, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Lakebridge Health Care Center in Johnson City, Tn. She was born December 4, 1926, in Buchanan County, Va. to the late Henry Rufus Smith and Mary Etta Brown Perkins Smith of Jewell Ridge, Va. Mrs. Hutchinson lived much of her life in Big Rock, Va., where she worked as a cook at Big Rock Elementary School before moving to Bristol in 1977.

December 17, 1949, Ellen married Dallas Devere Hutchinson, who was her loving husband of nearly 60 years until his passing June 19, 2009. Ellen lived a spirited life and enjoyed gardening at her home and singing hymns she learned in her youth. Though a dedicated worker in various capacities, she was happiest when spending time with her family.
She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Vernie Eunice "Toots" Smith Hurley (Elster), Roxie Virginia Smith, Frankie Smith Ratliff (Amel), and Doris Jessie Smith Street (Elmer); brother, Marion Richard Smith; half-sisters, Audrey Perkins Blankenship (Burt), Golden Perkins, Loran Perkins, Cora Perkins, Rebecca Smith Rogers (Claude, Sr.), and Nannie Bell Smith; half-brothers, William Leck Smith (Myrtle), Hannibal Hubert Smith (Gladys), Dexter Perkins (Lennie Ellen), and Ivor Perkins.

Ellen is survived by two sons and their families, Wanson Devere Hutchinson and wife Sharon McCoy Hutchinson of Bristol, Va., and their children Jason Kirk Hutchinson and wife Kimberly Ann of Bristol, Tn.; and Sara Kate Hutchinson Tallman and husband Matthew of Bluff City, Tn.; Robbie Darin Hutchinson of Bristol, Va., and his children Shannon Luke Hutchinson and wife Rachael, of Bristol, Va. with sons Holden Luke and Collen Lane, and Amy Jocelyn Hutchinson Roberts and husband Billy, of Bluff City, Tn. with daughter Bailly Faith and son Eli Mason; two brothers, Chester Carl Smith and wife Gaynelle of Springfield, Ohio, and Wayne Elden Smith and wife Norma of South Vienna, Ohio; a special niece, Ada Smith Horn (Harrison) of Meadowview, Va.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 28, 2014, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Wayne Lambert officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Visitation with the family will be held 6-8 p.m., Thursday, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service.
