Meadowview, VA Donald McKinley Holmes, age 71, passed on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at his home. Donnie was a member of Lindell Church of Christ and retired from HAPCO after 37 years of employment. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas McKinley Holmes and Hattie Spriggs Holmes; sister-in-law, Lorraine Riffey; and brothers-in-law, Paul Riffey, David Thomas, and Thomas Blevins.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joyce Riffey Holmes; son, Michael M. Holmes of Meadowview, VA; daughter, Beth Holmes of Abingdon, VA; brothers-in-law, Bill (Linda) Riffey and Allen (Marilyn) Riffey, both of Abingdon, VA; sisters-in-law, Josie Riffey of Meadowview, VA, Katie Blevins of Chilhowie, VA, Charlotte (Terry) Denton of Bristol, TN, Sharon Thomas of Abingdon, VA, Loretta (Gary) McCray of Meadowview, VA, and Ruth (Doug) Day of Ocala, FL; and special cousin, Jerry Jadack of York, PA.
Visitation with the family will be held 12:30 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2016, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Minister Johnny Farmer and Minister Phil Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Bill Riffey, Allen Riffey, Tommy Blevins, Gary McCray, Eddie Counts, Mark Henderson, Willie Browning, and Horton Kestner serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Fount Taylor, Joe Carter, Dot Henderson, Jay Henderson, Curtis Wilson, Gary Morrison, Mike Bowles, David Helton, and Wayne Davenport.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the charity of your choice or to the American Lung Association in Mr. Holmes name. The family would like to extend special thanks to Macs Medical, Hometown Hospice, and Dr. Swank and Dr. Robinette for the years of care provided to Donnie.
