Emory, VA Dorothy Price Dot Culberson, most recently residing in Lynchburg, VA, and after more than 60 years in Emory, VA, died on January 9, 2016. Dot was predeceased by her grandson, Allen Culberson, and by her husband of 66 years, Gilbert Cornelius Connie Culberson.
Dot was born in 1921 in Chattanooga, TN and completed business courses at Edmondson School of Business. She serviced Emory Henry College for many years as the Adminstrative Assitant to the Dean of Students, Secretary to the Dean of the College, and bookkeeper, among other roles. She worked as a bookkeeper at Highlands Nursing Home, Royster-Hayter Company, Holston Furniture and the Krystal Hamburger Company.
She was a longstanding member of Emory United Methodist Church where she served as president of the Womens Society of Christian Service, on the Kindergarten Committee, as assistant teacher for Kindergarten, Co-Director of the Cooperating Nursery, and Sunday school teacher.
Dot was very active in her community, where she served in the College Community Club for over 60 years, the Cub Scouts, The PTA, the Girl Scouts and as a fundraiser for the Cancer Drive, March of Dimes, and Heart Fund.
Dot is survived by her four children, David Culberson of Johnson City, TN, Susan Elaine of Asheville, NC, Jane Bryant of Roseland, VA, and Ron Culberson of Nellysford, VA; nine grandchildren, Wes Culberson, Kit Culberson Jones, Sera Turner, Dan Turner, Adam Bryant, Diamanta Bryant, Romona Bryant, Caitlin Culberson, and Ryan Culberson; and five great-grandchildren, Bailey Bryant, Brandon Bryant, Bethany Bryant, Loretta Jones, and Matthew Culberson.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at the Emory Henry College Chapel with Rev. David Jackson and Dr. Tal Stanley officiating.
