Dwight Allen Boyd, 58, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2011. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, son of the late Ernest Boyd and Annie Adkins Boyd. He was a 1971 graduate of Patrick Henry High School and had attended Virginia Highlands Community College and East Tennessee State University. For seven years, Allen worked in a dental laboratory and later had worked as a professional in-home caregiver. He attended Harvest Fellowship in Meadowview.

Allen was a well-known stained glass craftsman for twenty-five years. He was commissioned to do the restoration of an original Tiffany stained glass window at the Washington County Court House, and he also created an original stained glass piece for the Barter Theatre. Allen was a frequent exhibitor and vendor at the Virginia Highlands Festival in Abingdon.

Allen's family would like to offer special thanks to the staff of Johnston Memorial Cancer Center; Jamie Roark, who brought much sunshine to Allen's life; and the staffs of Hometown Hospice and Valley Healthcare.

Allen is survived by his wife, Tammy Boyd; one step-son, Dustin Cannon of Damascus; one step-daughter, Sharon Thompson and husband Corp. John Thompson (USMC) of Wilmington, NC; two brothers: Bill D. Boyd and wife Maxine of Bristol, TN, and Sam Mack Boyd of Meadowview; three sisters: Carol Jones and husband Thomas of Glade Spring, VA; Doris Maiden and husband Charlie of Abingdon; and Mary Anne Fuller of Sunset Beach, NC; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and one great-great-nephew.

The funeral service for Allen Boyd will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2011, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Tommy Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Ricky Boyd, Chad Morrison, Thomas Jones, Daniel Walls, Dennis Bryant, and Mack Bailey. Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Jones, Jr., Gay Leonard, Shane Crabtree, Taylor Burgess, Debbie Roark, Charlie Maiden, and Albert Walls.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, from 6:00 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Allen's memory be made to Harvest Fellowship, c/o Shirley Atkins, 1094 Canterbury Lane, Abingdon, VA 24210; or to Hometown Hospice, 611 Campus Drive, Abingdon, VA 24210.
