Edith Fletcher McClanahan, age 96, passed on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Formerly of Home Creek, VA Edith relocated to Abingdon, VA in 1979. She was a member of Macedonia Church of Christ.
She was born to the late Rufus Fletcher and Garnie Nuchols Fletcher. She is also preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Kenneth McClanahan; son, Jim McClanahan; three brothers, Ralph Fletcher, Harold Fletcher, and Omar Fletcher; and sister, Lou Ownby.
She is survived by her daughter, Lyn Britt and husband Terry of Huntington Beach, CA; two brothers, Bill Fletcher of Claypool Hill, VA and Kenneth Fletcher of Garden, VA; sister, Agnes Deel of Chesapeake, VA; daughter-in-law, Deana McClanahan; four grandchildren, Patrick McClanahan, Chris McClanahan, Shannon Maynor, and Erin Britt; and six great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home with Minister Ron Musick officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens where Terry Britt, Barry Fletcher, David Fletcher, Mark Fletcher, and Michael Fletcher, Keith McClanahan, Patrick McClanahan, Roger McClanahan will serve as pallbearers.
