ABINGDON, Va - Edward C. Craig, age 81, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2016, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born November 20, 1934, in Wellsvville, N.Y. to the late Edward A. Craig and Ada Robbins Craig.
Ed served his country with the 11th Airborne Division and the 64th Ordinance Battalion. He received his honorable discharge from the Army in 1955. He was a member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church. Ed began his career in education before moving on to distinguished positions within the home building industry serving as President and Chief Executive Officer. In his early life he was heavily involved with leadership roles in the Boy Scouts and Camp Fire Girls. All three of his sons were Eagle Scouts. Ed will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie Craig; and sister, Sandra C. Aldrich.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Craig; mother of his children, Diane Craig; daughters, Linda Bullwinkle and husband, Dick of Pilot Point, Texas, and Cheryl Craig of McKinney, Texas; sons, Kyle Craig and wife, Wynn of Abingdon, Va., Derek Craig and wife, Robin of Kyle, Texas, and Michael Craig and wife, Alicia of Willcox, Ariz.; step daughter, Melissa Newman and husband, Michael of Kennesaw, Ga.; brother, Richard Craig and wife, Kathy of Corfu, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be held from 1 until 2 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2016, at Pleasant View United Methodist Church, 18416 Lee Highway, Abingdon, Va. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ralph Kidd officiating. Interment will follow at Elizabeth Cemetery in Saltville, Va. with Thomas M. Tom Carter, Jr., Charles Fogarty, Harry L. Frye, Jr., Lloyd Montgomery, Matthew Montgomery, and Paul Widener serving as pallbearers. Military Rites will be conducted by the Virginia National Guard and Highlands Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Pleasant View United Methodist Church, 18416 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210, or to V.F.W. Post 1994 in Abingdon, Va.
