Elmer Beattie Johnson

September 28, 1923 — January 16, 2010

Elmer Beattie Johnson, age 86, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born September 28, 1923 in Glade Spring, VA.

Elmer was a lifelong member of Plum Creek Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army for 2 years and had been employed by the U.S. Gypsum Company for 41 years. He had also served on the Glade Spring Town Council for 28 years.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gina Rene Johnson Anderson.

He is survived by his wife, Elvena Stuart Johnson; son, Michael Elmer Johnson of Fackler, Alabama; daughter, Cassandra Grace Johnson of Glade Spring, VA; four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services are to be conducted at 12:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at Fairview Baptist Church in Glade Spring with Rev. Melvin Johnson, Rev. Mark Canty and Rev. Danny B. Belcher, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring with military honors conducted by Highlands Fellowship Veterans Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Laurn Becker, Daryl Coleman, Gary Coleman, Dennis Hill, II, Travis Hill and Gary Montgomery. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Bowers, Charles Byrd, Prince Coleman, Daniel Hounshell, Edwin Lomans, Curtis Montgomery, Eugene Rasor and Tony Rector.

The family will receive friends from 11 am until the time of the service.
