Elwood Evan Owens

February 3, 1931 — June 9, 2017

Meadowview, VA – Elwood Evan Owens, age 86, passed on Friday, June 9, 2017 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Mr. Owens was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War and retired from Raytheon after many years of employment. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy E. Owens and Lillian Mae Arnold Owens; wife, Lantha Johnson Owens; brother, Paul Wann; and sister, Pansy Wann.

He is survived by two sons, Carson Owens of Blountville, TN and Darryl Owens of Meadowview, VA; daughter, Yana Minton of Glade Spring, VA; seven grandchildren, Shane Owens and fiancée Melinda Guffey, Candace Henry and husband Petty Officer First Class Andrew Henry, U.S.N., Brittney Burke and husband Airman First Class Christopher Burke, U.S.A.F., Holly Bowman and husband Darius, Dexter Minton and fiancée Courtney Wright, Hanah Owens, and Seth Owens; and nine great granchildren.

Visitation with the family will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Glade Baptist Cemetery with Carson Owens, Darryl Owens, Shane Owens, Seth Owens, Dexter Minton, and Jeff Sullins serving as pallbearers. Military Rites will be conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the U.S. Navy.
