Erma Virginia Crum Deel

Dateline: Abingdon, Va.- Our sweet Mommy, Erma Virginia Crum Deel, age 89, entered her heavenly home on Sunday, December 13, 2015, after a lengthy illness. She was a devoted Christian and a wonderful loving mother who carried on through five generations of family. Erma was born in Woodman, Ky., and lived most of her life in Prater, Va. until she relocated to Abingdon, Va. in 1975. She retired from Johnston Memorial Hospital where she served as a nurses aide, and returned to volunteer as a pink lady at the hospital following retirement. She also volunteered at Faith in Action and was a member of the Abingdon Senior Center. Erma attended Fellowship Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Allen Deel; parents, Marel E. Crum and Ardelia Bentley Crum; step-mother, Ora Gent Crum; three sisters; four brothers; and grandson, Marell Allen Deel II. She is survived by five daughters: Glenda (Jim) Kolesar of Abingdon, Va.; Carolyn (Jimmy) Deel of Lebanon, Va.; Phyllis (Russ Davis) Steinberg of Abingdon, Va.; Patsy Wilson of Abingdon, Va.; Tina (Lisa Reynolds) Deel of Norfolk, Va.; son, Marell Allen (Katie) Deel Vansant, Va.; brother, Jack Crum of Kingsport, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and special dog, Sampson. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 17th at the funeral home with Pastor Chad Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Knollkreg Memorial Park where pallbearers will be selected from grandsons and great grandsons. Russ Davis, James Kolesar, and Jimmy Deel will serve as honorary pallbearers.
