Ethel Marie Widener Arnold, 82, passed away Monday, May 28, 2012 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Arnold was a member of Shady Grove Pentecostal Church and worked at Harwood in Abingdon for over 18 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Isabelle Frances Anders Widener; husband, Hugh "Doc" Arnold; special grandson, Brian Arnold; three sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by four sons, Bobby Dean (Kay) Arnold of Damascus, VA, Jerry Blaine (Sharon) Arnold of Saltville, VA, Dennis Hugh (Carol) Arnold of Abingdon, VA and Otis Wayne Arnold of Abingdon, VA; one daughter, Frances Marie Thomas of Abingdon, VA; nine grandchildren, Brad Arnold, Kayla Vukodinovich, Allen Arnold, Joanna Ray, Jason Arnold, Matthew Arnold, Courtney Collins, Brittany Thomas, and Tonya Buchanan; eight great-grandchildren; special friends, Marie Keene, Shirley Hurt, Gayle Blevins, Sharon and Jerry Shortridge, Dorothy Hall, Chad Cordle, Marion "Bones" Spiva, Bill Mink, Ronnie Doss, Bryan Porter and family and all members of the Washington County Sheriff's Dept.

Funeral services will be held 7:00 P.M. Thursday, May 31, 2012 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Adam Wise, Rev. Paul Stanley and Rev. Thurman Chapman officiating. Entombment will be held 4:00 P.M. Friday at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Mark Arnold, Lonnie Keene, Marion "Bones" Spiva, Chad Cordle, Bill Mink, Kenneth Wolfe, Harold Crosswhite, Jr. and Ronnie Doss serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen, Brad, Matthew and Jason Arnold, Matthew Riley, Bill Nunley, Don Snowden, Billy Vandyke, Craig South, Dwayne South, Gerry Collins, Kenneth Ray Dr. Ernest Henry, Dr. Paul Armstrong, Dr. Warren Chang and the members of the Washington County Sheriff's Dept.

Those who wish to travel in procession to the cemetery are asked to meet at the funeral home by 3:30 P.M. Friday. Visitation with the family will be 5:00 7:00 P.M. Thursday prior to the service.

The family would like to extend special thanks to her special caregivers and daughters-in-law, Carol and Sharon Arnold; all nieces, nephews, cousins; Dr. Ernest Henry, Dr. Warren Chang, and Dr. Paul Armstrong; Ronnie Hayes, Brian and Amanda Blevins; the staff at Johnston Memorial Hospital and Smyth County Ambulance Service for the special consideration they gave Mrs. Arnold.
