Eugene Scyphers, 87, passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 28, 2010.

He was the eldest son of the late Roy Lee and Cora Gobble Scyphers. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Scyphers and a sister, Peggy Scyphers Johnson and her husband, James M. Johnson.

He was a veteran of Patton's Third Army during World War II and a member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Hawkins Scyphers; three sons, Glenn Scyphers of Abingdon, Steve Scyphers and wife, Becky of Bristol, TN and Mark Scyphers and wife, Wendy of Bristol, TN; three daughters, Connie Gillenwater and husband, Jim, Gloria McThenia and Linda Scyphers-Hartsock and husband, Larry all of Abingdon; stepdaughter, Brenda Hawkins of Abingdon; three grandsons, Phillip Scyphers of Colonial Beach, VA, Jimmy Gillenwater and fiancée, Krystina Barksdale and Jacob Scyphers all of Abingdon; four granddaughters, Ginger St. John and husband, Todd of Abingdon, Shannon McCloud and husband, Jeff of Maryville, TN, Rebecca Gillenwater and fiancée, Eric Thompson of Abingdon and Audrey Scyphers of Bristol, TN; great grandsons, Christopher McCloud and Stephen St. John; great granddaughters, Sarah McCloud and Alexis Scyphers, special brother-in-law, Virgil Noonkester; sister-in-law, Eva Scyphers and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 30, 2010 at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon with Rev. Ralph Kidd and Rev. Barbara Farmer officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by Highlands Fellowship Veterans Honor Guard at the cemetery.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Billy Joe Scyphers, Jackie Scyphers, Paul Ed Scyphers, Gary Singleton, Allen Singleton, Mike Noonkester, Jeff McCloud and Todd St. John.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant View United Methodist Church, Abingdon, VA.
