Eva Mae Bailey

June 11, 1915 — June 2, 2017

Eva Mae Bailey, age 101, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 2, 2017.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Leander McBride Bailey; son, James McBride Bailey; and granddaughter, Eva Louise Bailey. She was blessed with a close and very large family which included her father, Wiley Lafayette Holman; her beloved mother, Sarah Elizabeth Debusk Holman; five brothers; and five sisters, all of whom preceded her in death.

Eva is survived by her daughter, Wanda Bailey Singleton and husband, Johnny; son, Wayne C. Bailey and wife, Lillian; seven beloved grandchildren, Mack Bailey and Lisa, Carson Bailey, Kevin Singleton and Amy, Jay Singleton and Susan, Michael Andrew Bailey, Sarah Bailey and Marianne, and Chris Favella; eight treasured great grandchildren; and several beloved nieces and nephews who have maintained a close relationship with her.

Eva was an inspiration to all who knew her throughout her long and productive life, which included working as a seamstress at Big Jack Manufacturing and her years of service at the Johnston Memorial Hospital Snack Bar where her creme pies are lauded to this day. She enjoyed traveling with the XYZ Club and other senior groups. She loved fishing and gardening. She was quick to share her greatest joy was that of raising her son, Jimmy, and her twins, Wayne and Wanda. Her years as a wonderful mother and homemaker were indeed her passion. Her engaging and genuine personality drew many wonderful friends who remained close to her throughout her life. She was a member of Denton Valley Baptist Church and a former member of Virginia Avenue Baptist Church. A special thank you is offered to all the Christian Churches who have blessed her in so many special ways. As a professed Christian, she never missed an opportunity to witness for Jesus Christ, share His love, mercy, and saving grace to all those who crossed her path. She spent her last six years at Commonwealth Senior Living where she was loved, respected, and wonderfully cared for by the staff who grew to love Eva, as did all who came to know her.
