Fay Howard "Herbie" Ashbrook

Abingdon, VA- Mr. Fay Howard “Herbie” Ashbrook, age 80, passed away on Friday February 20, 2015 in the Johnston Memorial Hospital. Herbie was a native of Russell County VA but had moved to Abingdon in 1978. He was a U.S Marine Corps veteran, and was a retired driver for the Buck Oil Company. Herbie was a member of the Woodland Baptist Church. Mr. Ashbrook was predeceased by wife of 37 years Oneta Jordan Ashbrook; his parents Otis and Bessie Ashbrook; brothers Elbert, Carl, and Vernie “Chick” Ashbrook; sisters Lois Hubbard, Mary Sue Honaker, Hazel Sykes and Ellen Wallace. He is survived by his step son Jeff Jordan; step daughters Sherry Conkle and husband Tom, Teresa Hawkins and husband Mac, Deloris Jordan, Joy Harris and husband Mike, Denna Burleson and husband Harry; brothers, Earnest “Popeye” Ashbrook and wife Irene and Billy Ashbrook; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mr. Fay Howard “Herbie” Ashbrook will be held on Monday February 23, 2015 at 7:00 pm at the Farris Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bob McCormick officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm prior to the service. Interment will be at Temple Hill Memorial Park; Castlewood, VA on Wednesday February 25, 2015 at 2:00 pm, where grandsons Brock Hawkins, Josh Conkle, Cody Harris, Kevin Salyer, Dustin Salyer, Jake Brown, Luke Brown, Tim Salyer, and Rob Stacy will serve as casket bearers. Honorary bearers will be sons-in-law Mac Hawkins, Harry Burleson, Tom Conkle, and Mike Harris.
