Mr. Freddie Lee Harless, Sr., age 60, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Mr. Harless was a native of Russell County Virginia, but had lived in Abingdon for the past 40 years. He was a member of the Abingdon Church of the Nazarene. During his working years, he was employed at Mid-Mountain Foods.
He was known as a good hearted prankster and jokester by all who knew and loved him. Freddie was always ready to go fishing! It was not uncommon for him to take a snow shovel to clear a path to a trout stream in the winter. He knew no strangers and he loved his pets. Most importantly, he was always ready to lend a helping hand when others needed it.
Mr. Harless was preceded in death by his parents, Archie Smith Harless and Maudie Lee Harless, and by a sister, Mary Jean Harless.
He is survived by his dear friend and the mother of his children, Kathy Harless Hicks; his daughter Amanda Ball and husband Nathan of Meadowview, VA; his son Freddie Lee Harless, Jr. and fianc�©e Pamela Wyatt of Abingdon, VA; brother Roney Smith Harless of Glade Spring, VA; sister Ella Sue Jones of Abingdon, VA; grandchildren Nevaeh Harless, Henry, Noah, and Diana Ball; niece Makenzie Helton, who knew him as PaPa; special fishing buddies and nephews Roney Wayne Harless and Archie Shawn Jones; and many more nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special cousin and caregiver Lee Price.
A funeral service for Mr. Freddie Lee Harless, Sr. will be held at 7:00 pm Monday November 25, 2013 (his birthday) at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Wayne Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm 7:00 pm at the funeral home prior to the service. Cremation will follow the funeral service.
