Garland Eugene Barrett

Garland Eugene Barrett, 70, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at his home in Meadowview, VA. He was born in Washington County, VA, on November 6, 1940, the son of the late Joe and Kathleen Barrett. His passion was for his family and for agriculture.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Roy L. Barrett and Joe Barrett; and by one sister, Ida Mullins.
Survivors include his wife, Lilly "Pat" Barrett; his children, Gary Barrett and his wife Sherry Aileen Barrett of Marion, VA; Sherry Lisa Barrett of Abingdon, VA; Tony Barrett of Meadowview; and Mike Barrett of Bristol, TN; one brother, Franklin Barrett; three sisters: Regina Cumbow, Christine Humphrey, and Opal Sipple; twelve grandchildren: Seth Barrett, Brittany Booth, and Hannah Ryan Barrett, all of Bristol, VA; Tiffany Adams of Saltville; Tasha Adams and Jordan Wyatt of Abingdon, VA; Kayla and Devin Barrett of Meadowview, VA; Mary, Micah, Sarah, and Luke Barrett of Marion, VA; one great-grandchild, Ethan Booth; and several nieces and nephews.
The family extends a very special thanks to Johnson City Transplant Center and Transplant Coordinator Nina Sams.
A funeral service for Garland Barrett will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2011, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. James Cumbow and Rev. Daryl Watson officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, Virginia. Pallbearers will be David Barrett, Tim Moore, David Lloyd, Mark Barrett, Ernest "Skeeter" Yeatts, Jr., and Benny Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Russell, D.H Russell, Oak Sanders, Cecil Ratcliff and Dennis Ball.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 5, 2011, from 2:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m. at Farris Funeral Service, Main Street Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Garland Eugene Barrett to the National Kidney Foundation, 1742 East Parham Road, Richmond, Virginia (www.kidneyva.org), or to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
