Gary Miller VanHuss

Abingdon, Va. – Gary Miller VanHuss, age 64, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, February 10, 2021.  He was the youngest of 14 children, born April 16, 1956, in Washington County, Virginia, to John R. and Lettie Kiser VanHuss. Gary was a well-known and much-loved resident of the Watauga Community. He was the Laboratory Manager with the Washington County Service Authority, where he had worked for 43 years.

In addition to his parents, Gary was predeceased by six brothers, Charles H. (Bud), Robert L., John A., James C., Paul F., and Ralph H. VanHuss; and three sisters, Goldie M. Tugman, Ella Mae Faw, and Bonnie Jean Estep.

Gary is survived by one brother, Harold D. Van Huss (Brenda) of Roanoke, VA; three sisters, Doris A. Yarber (Riley O.) of Glade Spring, VA, Linda Anderson of Independence, VA, and Janet McClelland (Herb) of Bristol, VA; several nieces and nephews (all of them special); many special friends (his work “family”) at the Washington County Service Authority; and Martha Tignor VanHuss.

He was most happy roaming the mountains, hunting and fishing, or just communing with nature. He loved gardening and sharing his produce with friends and family. He was blessed with a large, loving family. He loved telling his hunting tales, and will always be remembered by his favorite phrase: “Like I say…”

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Paul Viers officiating. A committal service will follow the funeral service and be held at Knollkreg Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

Covid-19 Guidelines will be followed, which includes wearing masks, social distancing, and adhering to occupancy stipulations.
