Gene Kelly Greer, Sr.

Gene Kelly Greer, Sr., age 72, of Bristol, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 15, 2019, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.  He was born May 23, 1946, to the late Hobert B. Greer and Etta Mae Widner Greer in Washington County, Va.  Gene resided most of his life in Denton’s Valley where he raised cattle and grew tobacco for numerous years.  In addition to farming Gene worked at Raytheon, Electrolux, Rockwell International, and Sunstrand.  In 1980 he started Greer’s Fencing and Land Development. Gene eventually retired and enjoyed playing the guitar, hunting, fishing, and being with his family, especially his grandson.  Gene was a man of Christian faith, loved the Lord, and taught Sunday school for numerous years.       

In addition to his parents, Gene was also preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy “Dot” Blair.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kathy Yates Greer; daughter, Shannon Kent and husband, Steve, of Bristol, Tenn.; son, Gene “Bro” Greer, Jr. and wife, Ashley, of Bristol, Va.; grandson, Steve Avery Kent; special sister-in-law, Lue “Nana” Rogers; two special nieces, Sandie Parrot and Tara Smith; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.   

A funeral ceremony will be held at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service on Thursday, April 18, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor David Mizelle and Pastor David Wilson officiating.  A committal service will be held at Rhudy Cemetery on Friday, April 19th at 11:00 a.m. where Mike Blevins, Bobby Boothe, Eric Greer, Mike Ohlson, Jeremy Parrot, and Rusty Yates will serve as pallbearers.  Bill Denton, Jim Potter, Bobby Rogers, Willis Sweet, and Jerry Wilson will serve as honorary pallbearers.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, April 18th from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. prior to the service.
