Gene Lindberg Lilly, 84, died Sunday, January 2, 2011 at his home. Mr. Lilly was a life-long resident of Washington County, Virginia and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 20 years. He was a member of the Belle Meadows Baptist Church. Gene was a talented singer and enjoyed singing at church. Gene liked fishing, hunting and repairing small electronics.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Nancy; three daughters: Deborah Lilly Weddington of Abingdon; Susan Lilly Barrett and husband Jimmy of Winston-Salem, NC; and Jeanne Lilly Rowland of Statesville, NC; two brothers, Glenn K. Lilly of Bristol, and John P. Lilly and wife Vivian of Bristol; two sisters, Carolyn Lilly Leonard and husband Battie of Abingdon, and Janice Lilly Scott and husband Ivan of Abingdon; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services for Gene L. Lilly will be conducted Tuesday evening, January 4, 2011, at 7:00 pm at Belle Meadows Baptist Church in Bristol, Virginia with Brother Dewey Williams, Brother Darrell Fritz, and Rev. Samuel Weddington officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 6:45 pm at the church. Entombment services will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 4:00 pm in the Colonial Chapel Mausoleum at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, Abingdon. Those attending the entombment service are welcome to meet the family at the cemetery by 3:50 p.m. on Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Rev. Samuel Weddington, Michael Weddington, Nicholas J. Barrett, Dustin Rowland, Jimmy Leonard, and Jimmy Barrett.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice of Southwest Virginia, 301 E. Valley Street, Abingdon, VA 24210. The family also wishes to express special thanks to Hospice of Southwest Virginia and Sandy Pierce, Naomi Barrett, and Fran Hagy for the compassionate care they provided.
