Geneva Tate Hicks

Geneva Tate Hicks, age 90, passed away Monday, December, 22, 2014, in Front Royal, VA where she resided with her son. She was born to the late R.C. Laney and Myrtle Stallard Laney in Wise County, VA. Geneva relocated to Washington County, VA in 1952 where she was a member of Revival Center Baptist Church and retired after 28 years as a secretary with Bristol Steel. In addition to her parents, Geneva was preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene C. Brummitt; her second husband, Glen E. Tate; and her third husband, James Leonard Hicks. She is also preceded in death by three brothers, Buford, Claude, and Eugene Laney; and four sisters, Pearl Horne, Gladys Hall, Sally Jessee, and Stella Hancock. Geneva is survived by two sons, Eugene C. Brummitt, Jr. and wife Emily Jeanette of Front Royal, VA and Danny Ross Brummitt and wife Betty of Owensboro, KY; three step-sons: Danny Hicks and wife Terri of St. Paul, VA; Jerry Hicks and wife Vivian of Bristol, VA; and David Hicks and wife Brenda of East Ridge, TN; three step-daughters: Joy Smith and husband Gordon of Bristol, TN; Lois Peyton and husband Butch of Roanoke, VA; and Kay Ickerd and husband Jeff of NC; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; thirteen step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren. The family of Geneva Hicks will receive friends from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 26, 2014 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 27th at the funeral home with the Reverend Ed Davis and the Reverend Lyons Smith officiating. Special music will be provided by The Harlowes. Interment will follow at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, VA, with nephews Ray Horne, E.R. Hall, Guy Horne, Ronnie Jessee, Cody Hicks, Donald Barton, and Eddie Jessee serving as pallbearers. Gene Brooks, Roy Kennedy, Clifford Duncan, and the Deacons and Men of Revival Center Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family would like to offer special thanks to Blue Ridge Hospice of Winchester, VA for their care of Geneva.
