George Dean Greer

Bristol, TN George Dean Greer, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Abingdon Health and Rehab Center. Dean lived in the Denton’s Valley Community his entire life and was a member of Denton’s Valley Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, farming, raising tobacco, and hunting. Dean worked for the Strong-Robinette Company for 22 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, George Hamilton Greer and Mary Jane Rhoten Greer; four brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret Taylor Greer; three daughters, Lisa (Jessie) Kennedy of Abingdon, VA; Carmen Wickham of Roanoke, VA; and Rachel (Darin) Talley of Abingdon; sister, Virginia Abel of Bristol, VA; grandchildren, Brad Main, Julia Carroll, Monica Main, and Colton Smallwood; great-grandchildren, Damien Carroll, Madison Main, and Maddux Main; numerous nieces and nephews; and loyal companion, his pampered pet Cindy. Funeral services for Dean Greer will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 18, 2014, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Tim Stevens and Bro. Donald Denton officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 5-7 p.m. just prior to the service at the funeral home. A committal service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 19, at Rhudy Cemetery with Kevin Abel, Colton Smallwood, Jessie Kennedy, Darin Talley, Eric Greer, and Roger Mitchell serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry “Bud” Rowe, Ronnie Rogers, Tommy Abel, Raymond Potter, Richard “Doud” Rutherford, and members of Denton’s Valley Baptist Church. Those who wish to attend the committal are asked to meet at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rhudy Cemetery, c/o Arvle Woods, 2199 Denton Valley, Bristol, TN 37620, in Mr. Greer’s name.
