George Frank Brewer, 87, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2012 in Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Pickens, SC and had lived in North and South Carolina until retiring to Florida where he lived until moving to Abingdon five years ago. He was a proud Navy veteran of WWII, was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, EUR-African-MidEast Area Camp Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Camp Medal, Phillipines Liberation Ribbon 1 Star. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His grandchildren were the most precious part of his life. He attended Abingdon United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Elizabeth Rose Brewer; his wife, Ila LouEllen Nicholson Brewer and siblings, Roy Brewer, Blanche Wright, Ed Brewer, Eva Moore, Mellie McGuire, Jessie Mae Stargel, Pearl Raines, Ralph Brewer, Leon Brewer and Imogene Holcombe.

Survivors include his son, Tony Brewer and wife, Cindy of Abingdon; grandchildren, Ashley Fernheimer and husband, Justin of Chesapeake, VA, Phillip Brewer and Emily Brewer of Abingdon; sister, Ruth Griffis of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 14, 2012 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Walter Weikel officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Phillip Brewer, Justin Fernheimer, Stanley Raines, Cullen O'Hara, Bill White, and Alex Gibson. Military honors will be provided by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and Virginia National Guard Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends at Farris Funeral Service for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
