Georgia Ruth Lawson

Georgia Ruth Lawson, 82, of Abingdon , Virginia , went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 13, 2012, with her grandchildren by her side. She was born May 27, 1929, daughter of the late Wells and Clyde Rebecca Miller.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles W. Lawson; her beloved son, Larry W. Lawson; two sisters: Polly Mangus and Gussy Tipton; five brothers: Howard Miller, Gene Miller, Jack Miller, Bill Miller and Joe Miller; and several nieces and nephews.
Left to cherish her memory are her former daughter-in-law and her husband, whom she thought of and loved as her own children, Roy and Ruby Baumgardner; six grandchildren who were her life: Christy Black, Regina Thomas and husband Doug, Shawn Lawson and wife Tonya, Robin Johnson and husband Rob, Chris Baumgardner, and Nick Baumgardner; great-grandchildren who brought her so much pride and joy: David (Boo) and Laken Black; Coty Lawson; Justin Doss; Connor Rutherford; Hayley, Katie, Aiden and Kaden Lawson; Tyler, Nathan, Hunter and Hannah Baumgardner; and Dustin and Sierra Baumgardner; special former son-in-law , David Black; sister Susie Downey; two brothers: Jerry Miller and Bob Miller; and several nieces and nephews.
Ruth was a devoted Christian who proudly served her Lord and Savior. She was a proud wife, mother, grandmother and sister and treasured her family. She brought smiles to many and touched so many lives.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Hometown Hospice and Valley Health Care for the wonderful care they provided to Mamaw Ruth. They also would like to thank the Baumgardner and Wright families for their love and support and for welcoming Mamaw into their families many years ago. She loved you all.
The funeral service for Ruth Lawson will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 16, 2012, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Mark Baumgardner officiating. Burial will follow at Knollkreg Memorial Park . Pallbearers will be the following grandsons and granddaughter: Shawn Lawson, Christy Black, Chris Baumgardner, Doug Thomas, David (Boo) Black, Coty Lawson, Justin Doss, and Rob Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Aiden and Kaden Lawson, Roy Baumgardner, and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 15, 2012, from 6:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Friends may also call or visit any time at the home of her granddaughter Regina Thomas, 36247 Kelly Chapel Road , Glade Spring , VA.
