Geraldine Buchanan

Geraldine "Gerry" Buchanan, age 89, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Abingdon Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was a graduate of William King High School and was employed by Ellis Pharmacy and Abingdon Bus Station. She was a charter member of St. John Lutheran Church and a life member of the Washington County Life Saving Crewettes. She competed in numerous bowling tournaments throughout the South East. She also enjoyed fishing and golfing. She was an avid bingo player at the Washington County Moose Lodge and at Green Spring Volunteer Fire Department. She was like a grandmother to Josh, Tyler, and Julie Kroll.

She was born to the late C.H. Buchanan, Sr. and Ella Mae Wilson Buchanan on August 25, 1923. She is also preceded in death by three brothers, Bob Buchanan, C.H. Buchanan, Jr., and Tommy Buchanan; and her twin sister, Eloine Buchanan Kroll.

She is survived by four nephews, Jim Kroll and wife Tammie of Abingdon, VA, Bob Buchanan and wife Ronda of Bristol, VA, Bill Buchanan and wife DeeDee of Kingston, TN, and Mickey Buchanan and wife Andrea of Sterling, VA; four nieces, Becky Thompson and husband Roy of Abingdon, VA, Vicki Crigger and husband Johnny of Abingdon, VA, Teresa Dayton and husband Danny of Spruce Pine, NC, and Cheri Franklin and husband Randall of Charlotte, NC; and two sisters-in-law, Doris Buchanan of Abingdon, VA and Barbara Buchanan of Spruce Pine, NC.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 18th at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Scott Homesley officiating. Interment will follow at Knollkreg Memorial Park where family will serve as pallbearers.
