Gilmer Smith, Sr., age 75, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN surrounded by his wife and children. He was born to the late John Albert Smith and Eliza Arnold Smith in 1937 in Abingdon, VA. For the last many years he was a resident of Bristol, VA. He was retired from the United States Department of Agriculture having worked with Holly Farms, Valleydale Packers, and Malcolm's Meat Market during his career. He attended Fellowship Chapel and was a former member of Anderson Church of God. He loved the Lord. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who enjoyed fishing, camping, and being a handyman. He loved his church and family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, William Cain Smith and Joseph Edward Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Euna Lee Smith; two sons, Gilmer Smith, Jr. and wife Hannah and John Allen Smith and wife Monica all of Bristol, VA; daughter, Janice Smith-Brooks and husband Joe of Bristol, VA; four grandchildren: Gilmer Eric Smith and wife Liz of Bradenton, FL; Michael Lynn Coates and fianc�©e Sindy; William "Will" Smith; and Benjamin "Ben" Smith all of Bristol, VA; five great grandchildren: Treyton Coates of Bristol, VA; Alexandria Smith; Gilmer Eric Smith II; Charles "Chaz" Smith; and Myles Smith all of Bradenton, FL; several nieces and nephews; and a special little dog "BB".

Visitation will be from 11:00-1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday at the Forest Hills Chapel with Pastor Scott Price officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum of Forest Hills Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Pastor Scott Price for his comforting words, to Dr. David Thompson, and to the staff of Lincare, Inc. for their excellent care.
